Jonathon “Boogie” Long is a blues rock powerhouse. Blues Rock Review caught up with Long to find out what brought him to music, acting, joining forces with Samantha Fish, and when to expect his next album.

“Wild mix of blues rock, southern funk, soul, we do it all,” is the way Long describes his sound. The Baton Rouge native gravitated to music at a young age.

“My grandfather used to play in church and so I’ve always been in love with music,” says Long. “I used to see my family play a lot. My dad bought me my first guitar on his Birthday when I was about 8 and a half and I started taking lessons shortly after.”

After attending his first blues jam, Jonathon fell in love with the genre.

“The rawness, the feeling, you can’t fake it,” Long says about the blues. “You either got a little bit of it or you don’t.”

Long’s power trio is all about bringing energy on stage.

“If we look like we’re having fun everybody else does.”

As a young bluesman, Long was cast in a movie about the genre.

“It’s a family friendly blues movie, a low budget movie called We Are Kings and I was in it with some very good friends.”

An opportunity to return to the screen is one Jonathon welcomes.

“I would do it again for sure and I love writing. I’m really good at writing to fit a particular narrative.”

In 2018, Long joined forces with Samantha Fish to release his self-titled album on Samantha’s label, Wild Heart Records.

“We have the same manager. We’ve been playing shows together and on the same bill for a long time and we have a lot of respect for each other, work well together. She was getting into entrepreneurship of a record label and I needed some support,” says Long.

Long plans to release a new album this summer and is glad to be back on stage.

“Stay true to the music and we love you. Can’t wait to play,” adds Long.
